Climate Report Sicily Region
Sicily is at the centre of an area characterised by a Mediterranean climate, whose progressive warming process is among the most evident, while around 70 per cent of its territory is at risk of desertification.
The effects of climate change are growing and increasingly affecting our lives. One of the sectors most affected is transport infrastructure, and the phenomena that most threaten its proper functioning are: rising temperatures, changes in rainfall that adversely affect soil stability and bring with them unstable contexts for infrastructure, resulting in the risk of flooding of underground infrastructure, changes in sea level that put road and rail infrastructure located in coastal areas at risk, and flooding that affects transport infrastructure near waterways.
